Card Spotlight: Expose Tummy / Tummy Trap

We are entering our FINAL WEEKEND on Kickstarter! We are taking some time out from the Labryinth Masquerade to give you a peek at one of our favorite card combinations...

 CARD TACTICS FROM AL

These two cards are a great example of a slightly hidden mechanic in the game: Card Combos. Like Instant Actions, Card Combos are always OPTIONAL. They are generally not terribly powerful, but can give you a nice edge in close games. Our combos also tend to be paired thematically, like this set.

This particular combo is useful, but rare. It is a great attack card, but can be used in a pinch to gain Two Mischief Points for Two Affection. While you shouldn't bank on collecting this set, you should definitely take advantage of it when it shows up.

 BACKSTORY FROM ELISE

For most cats, the exposed tummy usually turns into a “tummy trap” the moment you try to pet them there. Claws and teeth come out! But Al’s cat, Faolan, loves to have his tummy rubbed. He will often roll over and permit us to pet his angel soft tummy fur.

Now we must away back into the halls of the Labyrinth. There are games to play, art to create, and when we are done, a game to publish!

Final Week of Kickstarter (Geek & Sundry Stream + BackerKit Add-Ons)

Greetings, Hoomins!

This week marks the FINAL WEEK of our Kickstarter Campaign! It has been a wonderful journey so far and we are extremely excited to be nearing the end of this campaign. We have already gotten a head start on finishing the remaining paintings for the game and we are aiming to go to press no later than Mid September.

Geek & Sundry: Facebook Live

The nice folks over at Geek & Sundry will be having Al over for a Facebook Live demo of Cantankerous Cats! If you want one last chance to see the game in action before we close our campaign, this will be it! You can watch us Tuesday, August 2 (tomorrow) at 3:00PM Pacific Time!
To join us, simply head over to the Geek & Sundry Facebook Page at 3:00pm Pacific and the stream should be at the top of their feed.

BackerKit Add-Ons

Finally, we have a big logistics announcement: We will be using BackerKit to help sort out all of the surveys, get your shipping info, and most importantly, give you all something you wanted: Purchasing More Stuff!

Many of you have asked about purchasing multiple copies of the game for friends, family, and other cat lovers in your life.We previously had a suggested limit of ONE per backer. This was mostly because Kickstarter has no way of writing in a quantity for multiple copies of a single tier. This makes logistics messy, complicated, and difficult to track.

Backerkit solves this with their Add-On feature. When we send you your surveys, you will have the option of ordering up to FOUR copies of the Kickstarter Edition as additional purchases. Additionally, any funds we raise with BackerKit WILL count towards the stretch goals, so there is still a chance to make these editions extra special after we close our campaign.

Card Spotlight: New Dog | Video BTS

Greetings, Hoomins of Kickstarter!

Today we have a special peek of a card in progress. Heather Gross (our new pencil artist) happened to be in town for Labyrinth and we sat down to crank out this lovely time lapse for you!

CARD TACTICS FROM AL:

New Dog is a fairly straightforward, disruptive card. The best time to use this card is when you see a lot of high value Affection cards on the table. Be cautious, though! This card also forces YOU to discard affection, so you may want to exercise a bit of patience and planning before sending in this Hound.

BACKSTORY FROM ELISE:

Nothing ruins a cat's day like the presence of a new puppy! For some reason, they seem to grab the attention of even the most well subjugated Hoomins. This card is based off the only puppy photo that Al took of his dog; Dudley (aka "The Dog").

When Dudley was a puppy, someone left him, contained in a duffle bag, on Al’s front porch. Dudley was pretty much the cutest puppy ever, and Al decided to keep him.

 EXTRA CREDIT FROM AL:

I don't know what became of the despicable person who left this sweet dog on my sidewalk, but thankfully one of my family's tenants picked him up. Dudley had definitely been neglected, abused, and roughed up, but he was still cute as a button. He was definitely part boxer, so my guess is that he was a rejected fighting dog since he was obviously a mixed breed.

After failing to find him a home, we decided to keep him as our second (at the time) dog. He and our Office Cat quickly...came to an understanding about each other and they have been thick as thieves ever since.

Speaking of Office Cat, some of you have asked how we get our animals to behave so well on camera. We made a quick video to show you some of our secrets!

Crikey. I think that was the wrong video. Guess we have to roll with it!

STRETCH GOAL REVEALED: PLAY AS THE DOG ($30k)

Details will be in our next update, but we are changing things up for our last week of funding. We are LOWERING that Mystery Goal to $30,000 because we get lots of questions about "The Dog" and we REALLY want an excuse to polish and deliver it to our backers.

The Dog will have DIFFERENT RULES than the Cats and is only recommended for advanced players! He is currently in early development, but we want to give you something exciting for backing our project so we REALLY hope you all hit this goal.

Card Spotlight: Multiplikitty

Greetings, Hoomins!

As we prep for our demo over at Game Haus Cafe today, we prepped this new peek into our process for those of you who can't make it to LA. This card happens to be one of our favorites and it comes with a video! ;)

CARD TACTICS FROM AL
Multiplikitty is our "nuclear option" card. It nets you a whopping FOUR Mischief points for a mere TWO Affection. It is well worth the requirement of using a Pounce Token if you time this correctly. There are plenty of cards in the deck that can negate this card, but if you are especially clever and observant you can pull off an early Domestic Victory with the right strategy in place.

This is one of the most divisive cards in the game and a great way to paint a target on your back, so think carefully before you decide to unleash its awesome power.

BACKSTORY FROM ELISE
All cats need to be spayed or neutered immediately upon adoption. But sometimes, kittens happen anyway. You are a very naughty cat for having kittens, but gosh, they are just so cute it's hard to stay angry!! The mama cat was referenced from a rather...prolific cat we know who has produced several litters of kittens. 

We are closing in on $17,000 and we have just under two weeks to see about hitting some of those stretch goals. We have a few exciting announcements to stoke the fires in the next couple of days, so keep your eyes peeled and your ears perked!

Game Haus Cafe and Labyrinth Masquerade

 Happy Caturday, backers!

We have a couple of announcements for this weekend that involve our in person schedules for the next few weeks. If you want to meet us or see the game in action, you have TWO opportunities to do so before the campaign ends!

GAME HAUS CAFE - Glendale, CA (July 26)

We will be hosting a Board Games 101 event at Game Haus Cafe on Tuesday, July 26th at 7:00PM Pacific Time. You can find Game Haus just north of Atwater Villiage in Glendale, CA at the following address:1800 Brand Blvd., #107 Glendale, CA 91204

If you have never been, there is a $5 cover fee to play games. They have a full coffee and tea bar, a stellar short order kitchen, and a dazzling array of pastries. We will be giving away adorable buttons to everyone who attends and plays a game with us.

LABYRINTH MASQUERADE - Los Angeles, CA (August 5-6)

ALL members of team Cantankerous Cats will be at the Labyrinth of Jareth Masquerade Ball next month! We have all had our hand in creating the stunning visuals you will see on display if you are in attendance.

• Al can usually be found roaming the halls serenading guests with his guitar.
• Elise might surprise us with a live painting event featuring one of our Tribute Edition cats.
• Jose (one of our Painters), will most likely be prowling the halls around the Museum. 
• Heather (our new pencil artist) will have a booth with her adorable prints for sale.

Shawn (our third game designer) runs the whole thing and this event is one of the major reasons we all came together to make this game a reality. 

We are still working out the exact details of what we will be up to while at the masquerade, but we will DEFINITELY be packing a special promo if you can find us in the halls...
